Reports in the Brazilian press have suggested that Spanish giants Barcelona are set to make an offer for Sao Paulo right back Douglas in a bid to bolster their defence, in anticipation of the potential sale of Daniel Alves.

A bid of around €6 million has been quoted by goal.com/br, and the 24 year-old is being touted as a back-up for Martin Montoya, who is seen as the first choice in that position for the upcoming campaign.

Douglas did not play in Tricolor’s Copa do Brasil defeat against Serie B Bragatino last night, although head coach Muricy Ramalho was quick to suggest that injury was the reason for his omission.

Douglas joined Sao Paulo in 2012 from Goias and won the Copa Sudamerica in his first season with the club.
