Serie B leaders Ceara proved that there is plenty of life in the second tier of Brazilian football as they staged a fanstastic Copa do Brasil performance to eliminate 1992 winners Internacional in Fortaleza last night.

Ceara, who have now only lost an incredible two games since the start of April, won 3-1 on the night for the against their better-known opponents; goals from Bill and a double courtesy of Magno Alves means that Ceara will make the final stages of the tournament.

Iis a remarkable achievement for a team with no major silverware in its history, and even more so because of the league challenge they are maintaining in a bid to get into the top division of domestic football.

Ceara sit three points ahead of their more illustrious rivals Vasco da Gama in Serie B, with the pair all set to meet this Saturday in Rio de Janeiro in what could be a vital fixture in the race for promotion.
