Paris Saint-Germain confirm captain Thiago Silva is out for ‘several weeks’
Paris Saint-Germain have released a statement confirming that captain Thiago Silva will be out for “several weeks” following the leg injury he picked up against Napoli on Monday night.
The French champions defeated the Italian outfit 2-1 in a meaningful pre-season friendly game but the consequence of the fixture is the loss of Silva for the opening weeks of the season.
PSG started their Ligue 1 campaign on Friday night with a 2-2 away draw against Reims but they could now be without their captain for five weeks, according to Eurosport.
Eurosport confirmed that the Brazil international had undergone an MRI and ultrasound scan to discover the extent of the injury, though PSG have yet to officially confirm the time frame.
With Silva's expected time on the sidelines to be five weeks, it means new signing David Luiz will need to settle into life at Paris quickly.
Many foresaw him forming a solid partnership with Silva, however the former Chelsea man will have to start life at PSG without his international partner by his side.
