Vasco da Gama won their third straight Serie B game at Nautico last night as their rise up the second tier of Brazilian football continues without any signs of letting up.

After a poor start to life following last season’s relegation, the Rio de Janeiro team are now only three points behind leaders Ceara after 15 games of the league campaign.

A seventh minute goal from midfielder Dakson was enough for Adilson Batista’s men to earn all three points against their opponents, who stay in 15th position in the standings.

Vasco were without striker and leading light Thalles, who is on duty with the national under-20 team at a tournament in Spain.

Their next fixture is a mouth-watering one this coming Sunday at home to Ceara, with Vasco knowing that a superior goal difference would see them reach the summit of Serie B, should they manage all three points.
