Brazil Under-20 Head Coach Alexandre Gallo has assessed the tactical trends seen at this summer’s World Cup.

The 47 year-old, who has previously managed in Japan and the United Arab Emirates, was intrigued by the use of the 5-3-2 system, but also impressed by some nations’ physical strength.

“I think we saw some things that had already been adopted in Europe during the season,” he told FIFA.com. “One was playing with a line of five defenders in a 5-3-2 formation, which many teams used, such as Costa Rica. Juventus won the Italian title playing this way.

“But we shouldn’t forget the physical energy and the commitment of some teams, like Chile, the Netherlands, and Costa Rica, which was incredible.”
