Barcelona midfielder Andrés Iniesta believes Neymar will become a reference point in the Catalan club’s history this season after enduring a mixed first year in Spain.

The 22-year-old moved to the Camp Nou from Santos last summer but struggled with injury and form at times during the 2013/14 campaign.

The Brazil forward still managed to score nine times and achieve eight assists in 26 La Liga appearances, while he also scored four times in ten Champions League matches.

Spanish midfielder Iniesta believes Neymar will become an icon figure for Barcelona, now that he has adapted.

Goal.com quoted the Spaniard, he said: “It’s always difficult to adapt, but I think he is a very young player and he is very important for selection.

“He is accustomed to living with pressure and we expect the best of him, because he is qualified to be a reference at Barca.”

High praise from Iniesta and after a positive World Cup, prior to his back injury in the quarter-finals, Neymar will be hoping for a successful season with Barcelona.
