Gremio lost their third successive game against Internacional last night, but new coach Luiz Felipe Scolari reserved some praise for his charges and insisted that there is room for optimism at the Porto Alegre team.

Speaking in the aftermath of a 2-0 defeat, Scolari told reporters: “The 2-0 result will not make me change the whole team.”

“We played for the first time and had good opportunities in the first half of the game.”

“But we lost to a team that had more quality in the final touch. They had the opportunity and scored the goals.”

Gremio’s latest defeat leaves them stuck on 19 points after 14 games of the Brazilian league season, after a very encouraging start; it is Scolari’s first foray into management since Brazil’s World Cup campaign came to an horrendous end at the hands of eventual winners Germany last month.
