Palmeiras’ move for forward Willian Jose has hit a stumbling block after it was revealed that the Brazilian’s negotiations with the club have broken down.

Uruguayan side Deportivo Maldonado hold the player’s rights and have announced that any deal for Willian would not be happening in the near future.

The striker had been on loan at Spanish giants Real Madrid last term, playing mainly for the club’s ‘B’ team, but gained a winners’ medal for the Copa del Rey after making an appearance in the competition.

Since joining Maldonado in 2011, nomadic Willian has seen himself set on loan to Sao Paulo, Gremio, Santos and Champions League holders Real.

In a statement, the player mentioned that he “welcomes interest from Palmeiras” and that “it would be an honour to serve.”
