Elano expected to depart Flamengo todayElano won the Confederations Cup in 2009
Flamengo midfielder Elano is expected to reveal his departure from the Rio de Janeiro club at some point today, according to reports in the Brazilian media.
The former Brazil international, 33, joined Mengao on loan from Gremio, whom he joined two years ago.
Injures have curtailed his career in the past few seasons, as an abundantly talented playmaker has suffered at the hands of bad fortune.
His hefty salary, which is shared by parent club Gremio, has been the cause of much criticism by Flamengo fans, as they seek to vent their frustrations at a club sitting bottom of the Brasileirao championship table.
In his time at Flamengo, he helped them to win the Carioca state competition earlier this year, and has represented Brazil on 50 occasions, scoring nine times. It is not known whether or not Elano will resume his club career elsewhere.
