Atletico Mineiro boss Levir Culpi has offered his support to under-performing striker Jo after the Brazil man missed their league draw away at Chapecoense yesterday evening.

The 2013 Copa Libertadores winnerssneaked a point without Jo thanks to a last-gasp goal from defender Leonardo Silva, with Jo excluded after missing a recent training session.

Boss Culpi said after the game: “At this moment maybe he needs support. People do not know any troubles he went through and it is a case for the technical department.”

“If they say he is technically fit to play, I will use it in the best possible way.”

Jo endured a difficult World Cup, playing second fiddle as he did do misfiring Fred, with then-coach Luiz Felipe Scolari seemingly reluctant to put his faith in the former Manchester City man to provide a presence up from for Brazil.

He joined Atletico Mineiro in 2012 from Internacional and has helped them to their famous 2013 title, as well as scoring 16 league goals in the process.
