Palmeiras defender Lucio has called for calm in the wake of his side’s poor run of form which has seen them play seven league matches without a win to their name.

The veteran 2002 World Cup winner, who joined Palmeiras on the back of their return to Serie A this season, told reporters after the 1-1 draw with Bahia last night: “Of course we need to win again.”

“For this to happen the team needs to keep working. We are growing slowly but we still need to improve.”

“We had numerous chances to score, but we had a good recovery. We need to score goals to win back the recovery.”

Before their next league assignment, Palmeiras have the opportunity to record a much-needed win when they host Avai in the second leg of their Copa do Brasil tie, having won the first match 2-0; Ricardo Gareca’s men then travel to face Atletico Mineiro on league duty on Sunday in a bid to win three points for the first time since May 22.
