Recent rumours in the Portuguese press regarding Botafogo goalkeeper and captain Jefferson have left many Alvinegro fans worried that one of their star players could soon be leaving the club.
Benfica’s club representative in Brazil, however, has guaranteed that Jefferson is not part of the Portuguese club’s plans.
“At the moment I’m in Portugal negotiating with a German goalkeeper. Jefferson is completely out of our plans. We’re not after him,” said Francisco Oliveira.
“After the rumours started, Botafogo contacted me to ask if there was any truth in them and I said that there wasn’t. His salary would be too high for us at the moment.”
