The Verdão ran out 2-1 winners to lift the Julinho Botelho Cup, named after the player who became an idol at both clubs in the 1950s.

After three straight defeats in the Brasileirão, Palmeiras will be pleased to have finally recorded a victory, albeit in a friendly match against Italian side Fiorentina.

Left-back Victor Luis opened the scoring on 14 minutes before Leandro made it 2-0 after 35 minutes. Giuseppe Rossi pulled a goal back for La Viola in the closing stages.

Fiorentina defeated Estudiantes last weekend and will play Universitário on Saturday as they continue their South American tour.
