Barcelona are considering making a renewed approach for Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos, according to reports.

Mundo Deportivo, as noted by Football Espana, suggests that the Catalan giants remain strongly interested in the 20 year-old.

It was widely claimed earlier in the summer that they were eager to sign him in a swap deal involving Daniel Alves, however no agreement was ever reached.

PS-G have since signed Ivorian Serge Aurier from Toulouse, which has likely ended any interest they had in Alves, but Barça are seemingly still ready to target Marquinhos.

How much they would have to pay for the São Paulo native is currently unclear, though with PS-G having spent a reported a fee of €31.4 million to sign him from Roma 12 months ago, it will likely take a sizeable sum.

Another potential sticking point is that with the loss of Alex to Milan, manager Laurent Blanc would be left with just three central defenders – David Luiz, Thiago Silva and Zoumana Camara – at his disposal, if Marquinhos was sold.

With the Brazilian looking like an awkward transaction, Mundo Deportivo goes on to suggest Arsenal’s Thomas Vermaelen and Liverpool’s Daniel Agger as alternatives, with Barcelona eager to make a second defensive recruit of the summer, after Valencia veteran Jérémy Mathieu.
