Chelsea striker Didier Drogba, who has returned to the club he helped to Champions League glory in 2012, ha lauded the team’s new signings under Jose Mourinho and highlighted fellow forward Diego Costa as a particularly astute buy.

Drogba, 36, will largely be expected to play back-up to Brazil-born Costa after signing a one-year deal to return to Stamford Bridge, although he will also be required to nurture the Blues’ young talent as well.

Regarding his new teammates, the Ivorian said: “It’s amazing to come back. It was an easy decision because it is very difficult to say no to Jose Mourinho and Chelsea.”

“Diego Costa I have seen in recent years and I liked him since the first time I saw him. I like his character, he scores goals and is good technically.”

Chelsea signed Costa from La Liga champions Atletico Madrid for a fee in the region of £32 million after the World Cup in Brazil finished, the player having represented Spain after changing allegiance earlier this year.
