Atlético Mineiro head coach Levir Culpi discussed the departure of Ronaldinho on Tuesday and admitted it is a shame the cycle has ended.

The former Brazil international only signed a new contract with the Belo Horizonte club in January after being heavily linked with a move to Turkish club Beşiktaş beforehand.

But now, after several months of inconsistent form and small contributions, the 34-year-old has come to an agreement to leave the club and is a free agent.

Culpi told SporTV that it is unfortunate the charismatic Ronaldinho has departed the club.

“I can’t call on Ronaldinho anymore,” Goal.com quote the Atlético head coach as saying. “His cycle with us has ended.

“It’s unfortunate because he’s an idol to all of us. Everyone loves his football, the way he plays and he’s a very charismatic person.

“But that’s the way it goes. He’s leaving and we must move on without him.”
