Argentine winger Agustin Allione has done his best to endear himself to the fans of his new club by declaring Palmeiras the largest team in Brazil, after he was presented to the media yesterday.

Allione, 19, moves to Palmeiras from Velez Sarsfield and will work under countryman Ricardo Gareca at the Allianz Parque in Sao Paulo having signed a deal until the summer of 2019.

The youngster said of his move: “It’s a sad day because I left a classic team. But, for me it is special because I start playing for the biggest club in Brazil.”

On any settling in period, Allione suggested that being from the continent would work in his favour: “It will help me to adapt for sure. Being here is important for any player, it is positive for South American football.”

Allione will join fellow Argentines Fernando Tobio and Pablo Mouche at Palmeiras as head coach Ricardo Gareca starts to assemble the squad that he wants going forward.
