The game at the Maracanã will kick off at 22:30 (BST) and both teams have admitted feeling pressure in the run-up to kick-off.

The game between the Rubro-Negro and Alvinegro in the 12th round of the Brasileirão looks set to be a tense affair with Flamengo needing to win to lift themselves off the foot of the Serie A table whilst Botafogo, struggling themselves, will be looking for a victory to assuage problems related to unpaid wages.

The game will mark the return of Vanderlei Luxemburgo to the Flamengo dug-out as he takes charge of the team for his fourth spell, this time following the dismissal of previous coach Ney Franco.

“I’ve got butterflies in my stomach,” admitted the 62-year-old.

For Luxembourgo’s opposite number, Vagner Mancini, victory is important to lighten the atmosphere at the club.

“The group was motivated by the victory against Coritiba. A victory against Flamengo would serve to bring yet more motivation, as well as some peace of mind to our players,” said the Botafogo coach.
