The current champions maintained their six-point lead at the top of Brazil’s Serie A following a 5-0 victory over Figueirense.

Figueirense offered some resistance in the first half and had some chances to take the lead before they fell behind to Lucas Silva’s 41st-minute penalty.

Cruzeiro, however, put in a dominant second-half display, scoring four fine goals to delight the home crowd at the wet Mineirão.

Marquinhos scored an unstoppable volley following Ricardo Goulart’s deft lay-off before Dedé made it 3-0 within five minutes of the resumption.

Further goals from Ricardo Goulart (72) and Dagoberto (79) sealed a comfortable win for Cruzeiro.

Elsewhere, Wellington Silva’s 66th-minute strike helped Internacional stay within six points of Cruzeiro after a 1-0 win at Bahia whilst goals from Rildo, Gabriel Barbosa and Diego Cardoso saw Santos remain two points behind Internacional in third following a 3-0 win over Chapecoense.
