Jorge Machado, a representative of Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fernando, has suggested that his client could join Fiorentina.

It had previously been thought that with five players – Alex Teixeira, Dentinho, Douglas Costa, Ismaily and Facundo Ferreyra – refusing to return to Ukraine from France due to conflict in Donetsk, Fernando would be considered untransferable.

Shakhtar’s defence of the Ukrainian Premier League also starts today at home  – the Arena Lviv – to Metalurh Zaporizhya, but Machado is seemingly open to discussing a deal with Fiorentina, who need a replacement for released veteran Massimo Ambrosini.

“Fernando to Fiorentina? That could happen,” he told calciomercato.com, as reported by Football Italia.

“It is a possibility at this moment. We’ll see what happens over the next few days.”

Fernando was signed by Shakhtar from Grêmio in June 2013 for a reported fee of €11 million. He went on to make 22 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring twice.

The Erichim native, who has been capped nine times for the Seleção and was part of the side that won the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, is now believed to be valued at around €9 million.
