Hellas Verona have announced the signing of forward Nenê from Cagliari.

The 31 year-old Brazilian – full name Ânderson Miguel da Silva – arrives on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract and has signed a one-year deal. The club confirmed in a statement on their official website that he will be presented to the media on Saturday.

Nenê has spent the last five seasons with Cagliari, who signed him for a reported fee of €4.5 million in June 2009, after he scored 20 goals in 28 appearances in the 2008/09 campaign for Nacional.

The São Paulo native would, however, never reach those heights in Sicily. His debut season yielded his best return – eight goals in 33 appearances – while last term he netted five in 33.

Verona Head Coach Andrea Mandorlini will hope Nenê can help relieve veteran Luca Toni of some of the goalscoring burden. The former Italy international struck 20 times last season, while Juan Manuel Iturbe, who has been sold to Roma, was the next top scorer on eight.

Nenê is Verona’s twelfth signing of what has been a busy summer for Sporting Director Sean Sogliano.
