New Atetico Madrid striker Mario Mandzukic has called on fans of the club to not compare him with past hero Diego Costa, as he believes the two have very differing playing styles.

Brazil-born Costa has left the La Liga champions to join English side Chelsea for a fee in the region of £32 million, with Croatia forward Mandzukic signing for the Spanish side as a replacement.

And he told the gathering press after the move was completed: “Costa is Costa, and I’m Mario Mandzukic.”

“Everyone has their own style, and I’m going to follow the instructions of my new boss, El Cholo Simeone. I’m really pleased he will be my new coach. I know his footballing past, he was a great player.”

“He shows the same as a coach, he lives football 100%. We are quite similar.”

Diego Costa left the Vicente Calderon as one of the world’s most coveted strikers having fired in the goals that led Atletico to their first La Liga crown since 1996.
