On the eve of his 100th goal for Atlético Mineiro, Diego Tardelli makes a pact with Ronaldinho
After being the club’s top goalscorer in 2009, Diego Tardelli returned to Atlético-MG last year and has since gone on to enjoy a successful period at the Belo Horizonte club.
In 2013, Diego Tardelli was part of the side that won the Minas Gerais state championship and Copa Libertadores. On Wednesday, he was involved as the Galo won the Recopa.
Wednesday’s game was extra special for the 29-year-old. In the sixth minute of the 4-3 victory, Tardelli converted a penalty to score his 100th goal for the club.
Ronaldinho is the regular penalty-taker for Atlético-MG, but Tardelli has revealed that the two had made a pact in the dressing room before the game.
“Normally Ronaldo takes the penalties. But we had already spoken about it before the game and agreed that, if we got a penalty, I would take it. Thanks to God, I scored,” said the striker.
“I was really pleased to score my 100th goal for a great club like Atlético, with so many important players, and even more so because it helped us win this great title.”
Tardelli now occupies 17th position in the club’s list of all-time top goalscorers.
