Real Madrid sign Brazilian left-back dubbed 'the new Roberto Carlos'

18-year-old Abner is one of Brazil's most promising talents

Abner Felipe Souza de Almeida, or Abner as he will wear on his shirt, has joined Real Madrid Castilla, Los Blanco's B team, on a free transfer from Brazilian outfit Coritiba.

The 18-year-old is one of South America's most promising talents and a first-choice member of the Brazil Under-17 squad that played in last year's World Cup.

It was there that he tore the cruciate ligament in his left knee, which ruled him out of a move to Roma after the Italian side had expressed an interest in him.

Quick, strong and solid, Abner visited Valdebebas a few months ago and has already trained with his new team.

He will need to displace compatriot Marcelo, however, if he wants to break into Real's first team.
