Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers: Coutinho is the brain of our teamCoutinho has been a revelation at Anfield
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has praised young Philippe Coutinho and lauded him as ‘the brain’ of the Reds team.
The Premier League outfit lost 1-0 to Italian giants Roma last night in a pre-season friendly match at Fenway Park, Boston.
Despite suffering defeat, Rodgers praised the performance of his young Brazilian playmaker after the match.
Rodgers told the official club website:"Coutinho is the brain in our team, the continuity player.
"He might not score many goals, but he's a wonderful reference for the team. He is the one that gets the team ticking, gets the movement in front of the ball.
“He goes and gets on the ball. He's a fantastic talent for such a young player and he's still gaining his fitness.”
The Liverpool manager went on to praise the 22-year-old’s tactical intelligence and his robustness for someone so small.
"He makes the crowd get off their seat,” Rodgers enthused.
“For someone so small, he's very tough and robust. He's a wonderful technician that has a great idea, tactically, of the game."
