Brazilian Rafael Alcântara, known as Rafinha, is delighted that legendary Barcelona and Spain midfielder Xavi will be remaining with the club for the foreseeable future.

Xavi was expected to leave the Camp Nou this summer and head off to the MLS but he has made a u-turn and will remain with the Catalan club until January, at least.

And Rafinha, who is expected to enjoy a breakthrough campaign this season under Luís Enrique, is pleased to be able to learn from Xavi.

The 21-year-old spoke to AS about the World Cup winner and new club team mate Jeremy Mathieu.

Football Espana quoted Rafinha, he said: “Xavi represents everything. It’s great news he’ll stay.

“I’ll learn from the best and that is very fortunate. I’m delighted he’s staying.”

On the signing of defender Mathieu from Valencia, the Brazil youth international added: “He’s a complete defender with incredible speed.

“He’s a great central defender and will be a great help to the team.”

Rafinha spent last season on loan at Celta Vigo under Enrique and many are predicting he will get plenty of opportunities in the first team this season.
