Werder Bremen are closing in on the signing of Internacional defender Cláudio Winck, according to reports.

Respected Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims that the Bundesliga outfit have beaten off competition from Fiorentina, Internazionale and Palermo to sign the Portão native.

Winck broke into the Internacional first team last season – he made three appearances in the 2013 Brasileirão – and has gone to feature five times this term, scoring once in a 2-1 defeat to Corinthians.

The 20 year-old’s potential arrival at Werder Bremen will be welcomed by Head Coach Robin Dutt. Centre-back Álex Gálvez has already been signed from Rayo Vallecano, but further defensive reinforcements are needed for a side that conceded 66 goals in 34 matches last season. Only TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, Hamburger SV and 1. FC Nürnberg let in more.

Winck, who can play at right full-back or in the centre, may be considered a player for the future, but Dutt has shown with the likes of Luca Caldirola and Felix Kroos that he is willing to field younger players.
