Brazilian side Flamengo have released André Santos just two days after he was attacked by the club’s fans following a disastrous 4-0 defeat to Internacional.
Sunday’s humiliating result left the Rio de Janeiro club bottom of the Brasileirão with just seven points from 11 games this season.
That proved to be the final straw for fans who have been left unimpressed with performances of left-back Santos since he joined the club from Arsenal last year.
Local media reported that the 31-year-old was hit in the face and kicked by a number of fans as he tried to get into a van outside the dressing rooms of the stadium in Porto Alegre.
Flamengo have now taken the decision to terminate his contract as a result of his poor performances and toxic relationship with fans.
