Flamengo defender André Santos has described his horrible ordeal with supporters of his own club after suffering defeat on Sunday to Internacional.
The former Arsenal defender was punched and kicked by his own supporters following Fla’s Brasileirão defeat.
In an exclusive interview with Globo TV the left-back described the experience, he said: “I walked out the door and I bumped into 20 fans.
“At the time I was leaving, I did not face with any of them, and when I saw there was not time to go back, some fans attacked me with punches and kicks.
“I tried to protect my face so they wouldn’t hurt me more as I did not even defend myself.
“It was just me and the security guard, and then more police arrived. But until I got into the van, I was beaten.”
André Santos then went on to insist that it has to stop being normal for players in Brazil to be attacked by fans, like what nearly happened earlier in the year with Alexandre Pato and Corinthians supporters.
He added: “It is normal that this happens in our country but we can not regard it as normal.
“We have to get more attention. Yesterday (Sunday) happened to me, and can happen to more people. Boo and curse us players, that is normal.”
