Ricardo Goulart scores again as Cruzeiro build championship lead
Cruzeiro beat Palmeiras to win their third league game in a row, and sixth in seven matches, to go five points clear of Corinthians at the top of the Brasileirao after 11 rounds of fixtures.
The defending champions did their damage in the opening ten minutes, with goals coming from Ricardo Goulart and Manoel, the former bagging a seventh league goal to lead the individual standings.
Palmeiras pulled a goal back after the break through defender Tobio, but failed to maintain enough pressure on the visitors to force an equaliser as they stayed in twelfth place in their first season back in the top flight.
Cruzeiro have now built a solid gap at the top of the championship and have a superior goal difference to that of their challengers.
A second consecutive league title for A Raposa would make them the first Brazilian team to manage the feat since Sao Paulo won three in a row from 2006.
