Palmeiras were defeated 2-0 by Santos yesterday and stand in captain Wesley has called for the board to bring in new signings quickly.

The Alviverde have been seriously weakened over the past few months as firstly they lost top goalscorer from last season Alan Kardec to São Paulo prior to the start of the World Cup.

They have also allowed playmaker Jorge Valdivia to talk with Al Fujairah over the past few days and young attacking midfielder Marquinhos Gabriel is close to exiting the club.

Therefore it was no surprise to see a weakened Palmeiras outfit beaten by Santos yesterday evening in the Brasileirão, even if they did enjoy some good moments in the game.

Wesley was captain for the match as Lúcio was suspended while Fernando Prass was out through injury.

And his message to the Palmeiras board was clear following the conclusion of Thursday’s 2-0 defeat.

Lancenet quoted Wesley, he said: “We lost quality players. Let’s see what the board will do to strengthen the team.”
