BOTAFOGO X AMERICANO

For the second year running Botafogo and Americano will meet for the semifinals of Guanabara Cup. But players like goalkeeper Max refuse even to think of repeating last year results when they lost at Maracanã against the modest team from Campos, (a small city about 250km from Rio). The final score was 1×2. “We won’t let it escape again. This is a new year and a new story. We have total conditions for winning this time. There’s no revenge, we’ll only do our best” said Max

Instead of being qualified for the semifinals, Botafogo´s performance had decreased considerably in the last 2 matches. Firstly against Volta Redonda (2×3) and then against América (0X2). These 2 results were enough for switching “the red light” in General Severiano. Coach Carlos Roberto talked to the group during 30 minutes, trying to find out possible problems. After the reunion, he confirmed the squad is motivated: “Everything is calm and peaceful and we’ll go for the victory on Sunday. Americano has a good team, in better physical conditions than us. But they have some weakness we might explore in the right moment.”

AMÉRICA X CABOFRIENSE

“We don’t remember when there were so many journalists and press covering America’s training” Said the former player and trainer Jorginho, after the recreational training session this afternoon. “All the players are conscientious that it is a real possibility of making history. They are very motivated, especially with the press interest. This situation is something really new for us but I think it’s a nice situation” he completed.

Center-forward Chrys and full-back Guerra didn’t take part of the activity but Dr. Carlos Veiga, responsible for the medical department said they will play next Monday: “I guarantee both will play, it only depends of the trainer”.
