Last night saw ten Serie B fixtures take place across Brazil as the league got back into full swing following a break for the World Cup.

In the main fixture of the day, Joinville triumphed 3-1 away at Ceará to assume leadership of the division. Two goals from Marcelo Costa and a goal from Jael put Joinville in a commanding position, with Lulinha pulling one back for the hosts in the 89th minute.

Elsewhere, Vila Nova’s dismal run of form continued as they lost 2-0 to their closest rivals, Boa. The defeat now leaves them routed to the bottom of the table with two points from 11 games.

The game of the day, however, came at the Arena das Dunas where América-RN ran out 4-2 winners despite going behind twice. Two goals from Max, including a sumptuous penalty, a fine solo effort from Wanderson and a stoppage-time effort from Rodrigo Pimpão saw the hosts move to 9th in the table.
