Chelsea boss José Mourinho hails Ronaldo despite Miroslav Klose breaking his World Cup record
Chelsea manager José Mourinho believes the new record World Cup goalscorer pales in comparison to Ronaldo, the previous holder.
The Brazil forward scored 15 times in World Cup finals and prior to this tournament was the man in possession of the record.
However, German forward Miroslav Klose has struck twice in this competition to take himself up to 16 goals and out on his own as the leading goalscorer.
In his column to Yahoo, the Portuguese manager said: "Hats off to Klose. I highly respect the numbers he has achieved but the truth is that a player who I consider the best after Maradona lost a record.
"I believe that Ronaldo was the best player of the last two decades - at least he doesn't lose the title of being the best of the past 20 years."
High praises from Mourinho for Ronaldo, a player he worked with at Barcelona and the loss of his record was further pain for Brazil fans on Tuesday.
No only did they watch their team receive a crushing 7-1 defeat, their player lost his World Cup record. They can at least be safe in the knowledge that nobody, as Mourinho has showed, will forget his phenomenal achievements.
