Brazil president Dilma Rousseff has told news stations across the world that her country will recover from the devastating loss to Germany in the Semi Final of the World Cup and that she is proud of the manner in which the South Americans have staged football’s showpiece event over the past month.

Speaking with CNN, Rousseff said: “I think they (the players) will be able to overcome the losses. That is the mark of an important selection and a great country”, adding that it was still an “extremely painful situation.”

“Brazil has organised and celebrated a World Cup that I believe was one of the best. This is due largely to the Braziian people that have the ability to demonstrate and offer hospitality and to welcome fans around the world.”

It is thought that Rousseff will be in attendance for Brazil’s third-place play-off with Holland in Brasilia this coming Saturday evening.
