Brazil midfielder Fernandinho has continued what is becoming a procession of apologies from all those associated with last night’s 7-1 hammering by Germany in an interview with SporTV.

The Manchester City man, who was brought into the side by head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari in the group stages of the tournament, said: “I think we’re all aware that it was an ‘impossible’ result.”

“This match will be remembered forever. The atmosphere is not very good after a match like this, not good at all. Our dream has ended in a very harsh way.”

In terms of Saturday’s third-place play-off, where Brazil will face either Argentina or Holland, Fernandinho added: “We need to have personality, raise our heads and try and live with this.”

“I think the professionalism of each of us, our character and honour and the pleasure of doing what we like most is what is going to help us thorugh the next three days.”
