LA Galaxy midfielder Juninho, who played for Sao Paulo at roughly the same time as current Brazil star Oscar, has backed the Chelsea man to step up to the plate and deliver a performance of real quality in this evening’s World Cup Semi Final showdown with Germany.

Speaking on his club’s official website, Juninho said: “He is a very good player and a very good guy. he is a very smart guy in the midfield area.”

“He is a pure number ten, so I think he is thinking ahead of the other guys and even though he’s not that strong, he moves a lot on order to find gaps on the field.”

Oscar has been tipped in some quarters to fill the void left by injured star man Neymar when the sides take to the pitch in Belo Horizonte later today; he had been adopting a wider role in the earlier stages of the tournament.
