Brazil’s defensive midfielder Luiz Gustavo has been linked with a move to Champions League winners Real Madrid ahead of the coming season, after impressing at the World Cup for the tournament hosts.

According to reports on realmadridnews.com and on the club’s social Twitter page, his club Wolfsburg have been sounded out over a potential €25 million bid.

With Real set to allow Asier Illarramendi and Brazilian Casemiro leave the Bernabeu on loan for a year, they have apparently targeted Gustavo, 26, as the man to replace them.

He only joined Wolfsburg from Bayern Munich in the summer of last year after being deemed surplus to requirements, but has impressed suitably to stir a clamour for his signature elsewhere.

Gustavo will return for Brazil’s World Cup Semi Final with Germany tomorrow night following a suspension; he has won 23 caps for the Brazilian national team.
