David Luiz believes Colombia would have gone deeper into the World Cup if they had avoided Brazil.

The defender - who netted a sublime free-kick to help the Selecao to a 2-1 victory over their South American rivals - was impressed with Jose Pekerman’s side, but believes Brazil gave a strong performance.

“It was a great game, Colombia had an excellent World Cup and they probably would’ve gone further if they hadn’t come up against Brazil,” he said, as reported by Football Italia.

“However, today we looked for the goal and were great in every moment of the match.”
