Colombia boss José Pékerman believes his side have to forget that Brazil are favourites in tonight’s quarter-final clash and just play the game.

The host nation will be expected to win this evening but Colombia will be hoping to spring a surprise and shock Luiz Felipe Scolari’s team.

Football Espana quoted the 64-year-old, he said: “The key is not to think about previous situations.

“For Colombia every game is a new challenge. We can’t look back and think about what has happened.

“We have to play our game according to what we’re doing. With confidence and without feeling there is a favourite.

“We have to take this game as we have taken games against each one of our rivals.”

Pékerman appreciates that Brazil will provide an extremely difficult match but knows Colombia can come out on top.

He added: “It will be tough. We expect a very difficult game. It’s a quarter-final, about to enter the final four.

“It’s a huge step for both teams and this is a decisive game. We know and respect that Brazil have great players, but we’ve seen that Colombia do too.”
