Brazil midfielder Fernandinho has admitted that Colombia playmaker james Rodriguez is the man to halt during the sides’ World Cup Quater Final this Friday in Fortaleza.

Monaco attacker James has lit up the tournament thus far and his progress has not been lost on Manchester City’s Fernandinho. He said: “I played against him in the Champions League. It was the start of his time in Europe and he wasn’t yet a first-choice for Porto.”

“Already in this game he showed his technical quality with his left foot. In this World Cup he is showing everyone that the money Monaco paid for him was well invested. The less space he gets against us, the better it will be for Brazil.”

Fernandinho could well be tasked with marking Rodriguez in Friday’s game, with the tournament hosts having to make do without the talents of specialist defensive midfielder Luiz Gustavo through suspension.

The winners will take their place in the Semi Finals of the competition against the victors of the game between France and Germany.
