Former Brazil star Zico has lamented the tournament performances of Brazil captain Thiago Silva so far in the World Cup, claiming that the PSG defender has failed to live up to the expectations placed on him.

In an interview with Radio Globo, the three-time competition player said: “Thiago Silva is not doing a bad World Cupbut we expected more from him in the team captain position.”

“He failed in two goals; Against Croatia he failed to cover and against Cameroon he has not closed down.”

“I love him and I would love him to lift the cup,” Zico was quick to address.

Thiago has been at the heart of a Brazilian defence that has conceded three goals in four matches at the tournament so far, with a Quarter Final looming against Colombia this Friday in Fortaleza.
