An 85-year-old from Rio de Janeiro state donated an unused ticket for Brazil’s 1950 World Cup final against Uruguay to a new football museum and received tickets to this year’s showpiece in return.

Joedir Belmont was 21 when Brazil lost 2-1 to Uruguay at the Maracanã but he was unable to attend the game, Fifa.com explains.

Belmont was presented with three tickets for the July 13 final by Fifa Secretary General Jerome Valcke.

The octogenarian said: “I’m hoping to get to see the match this time and for Brazil to be crowned champions!”
