Brazilian daily Meia Hora diced with destiny today, printing a controversial front page on the day of the hosts’ World Cup second-round game against Chile.

The newspaper’s cover carried a selection of prices for return flights to Chile, in a display of supreme confidence that Brazil would send their fellow South Americans home.

The last time the tournament was held in Brazil, local newspapers hailed the hosts as “champions” before the 1950 final against Uruguay, who went on to record a shock 2-1 victory.

Fortunately for Meia Hora, Brazil’s 3-2 win on penalties ensured that there was no need for humility on this occasion.
