Chievo Verona sign defender Edimar from CFR Cluj on a free transfer
Chievo Verona have signed defender Edimar from CFR Cluj on a free transfer.
The 28 year-old - full name Edimar Curitiba Fraga - spent last season on loan at Rio Ave, where he scored one goal in 24 appearances to help them to an 11th placed finish in the Primeira Liga and the Taça de Portugal Final - a 1-0 defeat to Benfica.
Edimar joined CFR Cluj from Cruzeiro in 2009. His first two seasons in Romania were successful - he won the 2010 Liga I Bergenbier, the Cupa României and Supercupa României - but was loaned to Skoda Xanthi for the 2011/12 campaign and then subsequently Rio Ave.
Now at Chievo, Edimar believes his experience in Europe has made him a left full-back who can balance solid defending with good attacking.
“I am happy to be a Chievo player and hope to repay the faith they have shown in me,” he told the official club website, as reported by Football Italia.
“I learned to defend in Europe, but like all Brazilians I already knew how to attack.
“I hope to bring my experience to Chievo and I want to make my mark here. I’ll do my best to grow as an athlete and help Chievo improve along with me.”
Edimar will have to compete with Senegal international Boukary Dramé for a starting berth.
