Former Brazil striker Ronaldo has given his backing to the ban imposed on Uruguay forward Luis Suarez for biting an opponent in his last match.

The Liverpool man sunk his teeth into the shoulder of Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini in their Group D fixture, leading to a four month global ban on all football-related activities.

Two-time World Cup winner Ronaldo said of the punishment: “Why do you want my opinion on Suarez? I never bit anyone!”

“I know that biting hurts. My children used to bite me and I punished them in my house. I sent them to the dark room with the big bad wolf! I think not being able to play football for four months is the same for an adult.”

The ban on Suarez could actually benefit Brazil in the short term as, if they beat Chile tomorrow, they will potentially face Uruguay in the quarter finals of the World Cup.
