Internacional playmaker Andres D’Alessandro has told Argentina to stop relying so heavily on star player Lionel Messi if they are to fulfil their potential at the World Cup.

The former national attacker told Goal: “He already has a natural pressure on him, for his various awards for best player in the world, and he knows how to represent his country.”

“The important thing will be to not depend on him only, as in the first two games, because that way things can get more complicated from the quarter final, when the quality of opponents increases considerably.”

Argentina have need Messi to bring his dazzling best form to the tournament so far, the Barcelona genius having scored later goals against both Bosnia and Iran to enable them to top Group F after two games.

Argentina’s last fixture comes this evening in a match with Nigeria at the Estadio Beira-Rio in Porto Alegre.
