Thiago Silva hopes people will appreciate that Brazil improved against Mexico and will focus on that rather than the disappointing draw.

The host nation stumbled to victory against Croatia in their opening match and again struggled in their second Group A match against Mexico yesterday.

Although they struggled, their performance was an improvement on the opening fixture and the Brazil captain felt it was important to focus on that rather than the 0-0 final result.

Silva told Goal.com: “I think we did better [than against Croatia]. We improve a little in some aspect every match.

“I believe we took a big step, but when you don"t get the result, even with the evolution you present, people might just doubt what I"m saying."

The Brazil skipper highlighted the defensively work of all of the team, with playmaker Oscar making eight tackles a particular example of how most contributed.

Silva believes it is important the team defends together, he added: “I think the team performed very well today, especially in moments when we were being pressured.

"We kept our cool. But the most important thing is that you understand that your team is going through a rough patch, so everybody needs to get back and help defend. That"s what happened today."
