Mexico head coach Miguel Herrera reserved extremely high praise for his goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa after they managed to hold World Cup hosts Brazil to a 0-0 draw in Fortaleza last night, improving their chances of qualifying for the second round of the competition in the process.

Herrera, who used bold tactics against the South Americans for the whole of the game, told reporters afterwards: “I can’t remember a goalkeeping performance like that in a World Cup.”

“Playing against the favourites, on their home ground, the team showed that they can compete against absolutley everyone.”

Herrera claimed in the build-up to the tournament that Mexico could shock everyone and win the World Cup and on the eivdence of last night’s game, his prediction may seem a few steps less bizarre than before.

Goalkeeper Ochoa himself added: “It was very difficult, and I’m delighted to leave the field with zero on the scoreboard. It was the game of my life.”
