Brazil captain Thiago Silva believes the absence of Hulk would be a big blow to the host nation but did admit they will have an adequate replacement.

The Zenit St Petersburg forward is a doubt after suffering an injury in training on Sunday and failed to train yesterday too.

If Hulk misses out, Chelsea midfielders Willian or Ramires are expected to replace him and Silva feels Luiz Felipe Scolari’s team have enough quality to cope regardless of who gets injured.

The Daily Telegraph quoted the 29-year-old, he said: “I think if he doesn’t play, that is a big loss for us.

“But I believe Felipe has a list of 23 players and any of them can be on the team.

“He can choose with a closed eye because they all have quality. But an injury during a World Cup makes a player very depressed we are here to help him.”

Hulk’s injury isn’t serious but it does seem likely to at least rule him out of the starting eleven for tonight’s second World Cup Group A game against Mexico.

The game kicks off at 2000GMT; follow our live text commentary from an hour before kick off this evening.
